This smoothie is a taste of the tropics! Right before the pandemic shut down the world, my family spent a week in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. And every morning, my daughter and I ordered a smoothie at breakfast. When we returned home, my daughter asked me to make a “Mexico smoothie” for her, and that’s how this smoothie got its name.
This recipe is my (healthier) take on the “Mexico smoothie.” Smoothies can be sugar bombs if you’re not careful, so I often add a few extra boosts of fiber (through veggies) and antioxidants (through spices) to balance out the naturally-occurring sugar from the fruits.
Mexico Smoothie
1c. orange or pineapple juice
1c. unsweetened coconut milk
1c. frozen pineapple chunks
1 c. frozen mango chunks
1/2 c. frozen passion fruit chunks
1/2 c. carrots, chopped or shredded
1/2 c. frozen avocado (optional)
1 tsp. Young Living Golden Turmeric powder (optional)
1 scoop collagen powder (optional)
Add juice & coconut milk to your blender, followed by the turmeric powder and collagen if using. Then, add the carrots and frozen fruit. Blend until smooth.
Smoothie tips
- If your smoothie is too thick, add a bit of extra juice, coconut milk, or water to thin it out.
- To make a creamier smoothie, replace the juice with coconut milk.
- Any milk will work in this recipe, but I do recommend using an unsweetened one. You could also replace the juice and/or coconut milk with water if you want a less-sweet smoothie.
- For a little bit of variety, switch up the fruit. Strawberries, peaches, and raspberries all blend well with the fruits in this smoothie.
- The same is true for veggies. If you don’t have carrots, a handful of spinach or kale works well. Your smoothie may turn kind of a brown color, but it will still taste delicious!
- Throw in fresh fruit if you don’t have frozen on hand. But if you do this, you may want to add a handful of ice to keep the smoothie cool and frosty.
The Benefits of Turmeric

You’ve probably heard of turmeric, the dark yellow spice that adds flavor and color to many Indian dishes. But did you know that turmeric has a number of anti-inflammatory and antioxidant values, too? These properties do a lot of good for your body, especially when it comes to fighting inflammation. Many people live with chronic, low levels of inflammation caused by stress, poor diet, lack of movement and exercise, or smoking. And if you’re living with low-level inflammation, it could lead to more serious health conditions such as heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s, and more.
Spices such as turmeric help counteract those things that cause inflammation, and adding a little bit to your smoothie is a great way to increase your intake of this super spice. I find that the Young Living Golden Turmeric powder is an easy way to add turmeric to my smoothie. But if you don’t have it, just sprinkle in a little bit of turmeric from your spice cabinet. But remember, a little bit goes a long way, so only add about 1/4 tsp for this smoothie.
The Benefits of Collagen

Adding collagen powder to your smoothie not only keeps you full longer, but it also gives your bones, skin, hair, and nails a boost, too. The collagen powder I use is flavorless, so you don’t even taste it in your smoothie. You can also add it to your morning coffee if you want to give your bones an extra boost of goodness to start your day. And while I haven’t tried it, I’ve heard that you can add a scoop to your pancake, waffle, or muffin batter.
Let me know what you think of the smoothie – and what fun variations you try!
This looks delish. I’m always looking for new smoothie recipe, and I’ve never tried frozen avocado. I see it in the grocery store. Gonna try this one.
