Do you like to read inspirational books? I do. And over the years, I’ve read or listened to a number of books that have left a lasting impression on me. When I was trying to work up the courage to leave my corporate job and pursue freelance work, these books gave me ideas and suggestions for how to work towards my goal and ultimately make the big leap.
If you’re looking for inspiration, here are three of my favorites .
The 5am Club by Robin Sharma: I first heard about this book during an interview with Robin Sharma during the My Dream Life podcast. He talked about his morning routine and why great leaders of the world start their day early and what they do during the early-morning hours while everyone else is sleeping. I love the concept: own your morning and elevate your life.
The Four Tendencies by Gretchen Rubin: In this book, author Gretchen Rubin breaks down four personality types based on how individuals respond to the question “How do I respond to expectations?” The four types – Upholders, Questioners, Obligers, and Rebels – are so accurate and there is even a quiz to determine which type fits you best. I love these kinds of books because they reveal something about how you and others around you respond to different situations. This one also sheds light on why you react the way you do and what you need to do, based on your personality type, in order to stay accountable to your goals and dreams.
Your Dream Life Starts Here by Kristina Karlsson: My guess is that you’ve never heard of this one. Kristina Karlsson is the founder of Kikki-K, a stationary brand and store in Australia. She wrote a book (and started a podcast) focused on dreaming and I absolutely love it. The book walks you through a series of exercises to help you become clear on your dreams. It also gives you steps and ideas on how you can work towards those dreams. I’ve always had a list of dreams in my head, but getting them down on paper helped me to become clear on the ones I want to pursue.
