Summer is my favorite time to read. And my favorite genre is beach reads. I love nothing more than sitting by the pool (preferably with a drink by my side) or sitting on the beach and losing myself in a good book. And the books I read in July did not disappoint! If you’re looking for a good summer read, look no further. Here’s what I’ve been reading.

Jennifer Weiner’s books are a bit hit or miss for me. Sometimes I really like them. Other times, they are just ok. The Summer Place was ok. Most everyone in the book had a secret. Some parts of the book were good. Others were tedious. And some were predictable. Of all the books I read this past month, this one was my least favorite.

I really like One Night on the Island! This book was so cute and I definitely wanted to know what would happen next and how it was going to end. The characters were sweet and the story was so heartwarming. If you’re looking for a feel-good read, definitely pick this one up.

I love Elin Hilderbrand’s books and look forward to her new releases every summer. I really enjoyed The Hotel Nantucket. This is one of those light, fun summer reads that I love. And honestly, every time I read one of her books I want to travel to Nantucket (I’ve never been!). I read a few reviews from people who didn’t enjoy it that much, but I would definitely recommend it, especially if you enjoy books set in Nantucket and/or previous books by Elin Hildebrand.

Inheritance is a prequel to one of my favorite series – American Royals. This novella is the backstory and sheds light on events referenced in some of the other books. I love the premise of the entire American Royals series – that George Washington became king instead of president. Such a fun concept and such a fun series.

More American Royals! The latest novel, Rivals, was great. I love the premise. I love the characters. And I love the storylines. What I didn’t like? The ending. But I’ve heard there is a fourth book coming out in 2023. And I can’t wait.

If I had to pick my favorite book from July, I would pick The Wedding Veil. I read it in two days. The book takes place in two eras – modern day and the 1920s/1930s. It’s set in Asheville, North Carolina with Biltmore Estate and the Vanderbilt family as a centerpiece of the story. We visited Asheville and Biltmore Estate a few years ago so it was fun to read with so many references to the beautiful estate. I loved the characters and loved that the book was part modern-day and part historical fiction. Definitely pick this one up!

I hope this list inspires you to grab a book and head to the pool or beach. We’re spending this week in one of my most favorite places. Here’s a hint…
Happy reading!!
