Hilton Head Island is one of our favorite vacation spots. And my very favorite breakfast spot on the island is Lowcountry Produce in Sea Pines. I love the “The Bowl,” which is a savory mix of eggs, grits, meat, and potato served alongside a freshly-made biscuit with homemade jam. My mouth is watering just thinking about this yummy breakfast bowl!
I make my own version of this breakfast bowl at home whenever I’m craving a hearty breakfast. Here’s the recipe for a single bowl.
Lowcountry Breakfast Bowl
1/3 cup quick cooking grits
2 tbsp shredded cheddar
1/2 cup diced potatoes, roasted or air-fried
1 egg, scrambled
1-2 strips cooked bacon
1 cup water
Salt & pepper to taste
To make the grits: boil 1 cup water with a dash of salt. Add the grits and cook until thickened, stirring continuously. Add the cheese and stir until combined.
To assemble the bowl: start with the grits. Add the back, potatoes, and egg on top. Enjoy!
Notes!
- I like to use leftover roasted potatoes in my bowl as it makes things easier in the morning. If you don’t have any leftovers, just pop uncooked potatoes in the air fryer for 10-12 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
- You can cook your egg however you like. I’m partial to scrambled.
- The original bowl at Lowcountry Produce also has sausage in it. If you want to add it, simply throw 1-2 breakfast links in the air fryer and cook until done. Slice them up and add to the bowl.
- If I have arugula or another leafy green on hand, I’ll sometimes chop it up and mix it into the grits for a bit of extra healthiness.
This breakfast bowl reminds me of summer! It’s perfect alongside an iced coffee. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. And if you’re ever in HHI, be sure to swing by Lowcountry Produce and try the original!
